1939

Our story began in 1939, when the Vegetable Vitamin Foods Company was founded by a young entrepreneur named Godrej Pallonji Joshi. He set up a partially hydrogenated vegetable oil plant (popularly known as Vanaspati) in Bombay, India to cater to the critical need of making a vital luxury cooking ingredient affordable, during that turbulent period of pre - independence India.

1940s

In the 40’s while India crossed the bridge from colonialism to independence, VVF’s business grew and it launched various brands of edible vegetable oils, the most popular of which were Vita Ghee and Mango. VVF also contract manufactured these edible vegetable oils, for Hindustan Unilever, under the brand name ‘Dalda’. Even today, the locals in the area refer to VVF as the ‘Dalda Company.

1950s

While the country’s constitution came into force making India a republic on the 26th of January 1950, VVF commissioned India’s first ever continuous solvent extraction plant in Bombay, India. This plant was set up by VVF to extract oil from various seeds such as ground nut and cotton.

1960s

In this 60’s while the country was poised for economic take off, VVF strategized, carefully planning and innovating for expansion.

1970s

The 70’s, the decade popularly known to have defined India, VVF’s chemical division was born, and the company started manufacturing and marketing fatty acids and glycerine in Bombay, India. Today, the chemicals division contributes to the majority of VVF’s total turnover.

VVF also strategically planned and installed a bulk storage tank farm in Sewree, Bombay, which is conveniently connected to Bombay’s Hay Bunder’s Jetty through dedicated pipelines. Today our storage capacity is in excess of 500,000 Metric Tonnes.

1980s

In the 80’s while India’s first female Prime Minister was elected, VVF’s Institutional products division was initiated, manufacturing soap noodles and soap bars in Navsari, Gujrat. The company also expanded its chemical business by manufacturing stearic acid and other allied products.

1990s

The 90’s, a historic decade in India, where policies were liberalized and economic growth rates increased, VVF’s Consumer Products division was born, with the successful launch of DOY soap.

VVF also established Synergy (India) Marketing (PVT) LTD. its own distribution company In India, a 100% subsidiary of VVF. Today, Synergy operates with over 350 employees, and a total reach of over 900,000 outlets.

2000s

Globalization in the 1990’s led to the miraculous growth story that India is today. During the 2000’s VVF experienced a sudden spurt of growth.

• VVF forayed into International territories with operating centres spread across Asia, Europe and North America.

• In 2005, VVF put India on the global map for the manufacture of fatty alcohols, by commissioning one Asia’s largest fatty alcohol plants in Taloja, India. ( largest splitting coloum in the world.

• In 2013 VVF aquired a coffee company in the USA, and supplies in- room coffee and condiments to the hospitality Industry in North America.
