Located in central Kolkata and formerly known as “Calcutta Chemicals Limited,” this unit was established in 1916 by eminent scientists. The company initially manufactured chemicals such as yellow prussiate of potash and crude ammonium sulphate from waste products. Later it diversified into manufacturing high quality Stearic Acid, Lactic Acid and Calcium Lactate for the first time in India. During the 1940s and 1950s, the business further extended its manufacturing operations into the pharmaceutical sector.

This unit today is capable of manufacturing soap noodles, bar soaps, toothpaste, oil saponification and fatty acid saponification.
